Ranking the Safety of Different Labels

Your ultimate cheat sheet to decoding gluten-free labels in the US, using the traffic light signal: green means go, perfectly safe, yellow means use caution, and red means danger, don’t go.

A rank of gluten-free labels.

Fun fact: allergen labeling, including the gluten-free label, was introduced to the US in 2006. Before that, people with celiac disease made decisions based on the ingredients list alone, no “gluten-free” label required.

Certified Gluten-Free Logos
